PROGRAM COORDINATOR – DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION COUNCIL (DAPC)

Seeking a successful candidate for a provisional, part-time appointment appointed by the Town Board of the Town of Bedford.  

Responsibilities include the development and administration of all DAPC program activities within the Towns of Bedford, Pound Ridge and Lewisboro.  This involves considerable contact with community and school groups, interaction with school children, parents, school administrators, local officials, and program resource personnel.  This position acts as a facilitator/catalyst in disseminating drug prevention awareness information through newsletters, presentations, programs, etc.

Examples of work include/not limited to:  develop educational & awareness programs &/or activities relative to drug & alcohol abuse awareness & prevention; assess need & coordinates program activities; prepare articles for/edit community newsletter;  prepare DAPC budget & complete funding forms for the NYS Div of Substance Abuse; act as a referral source; research/review books, articles relating to substance/alcohol abuse & related topics, etc. 

Req’d knowledge, skills include/not limited to:  good knowledge of the characteristics, problems & needs of drug/alcohol abuser as well as literature & resources on the subject; ability to maintain effective working relationships; ability to read, write, speak, understand & communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of the position; ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, email; strong oral & written communication skills; good judgment;  initiative; tact & courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. 

Minimum acceptable training & experience: Either: (a) two (2) yrs of college with a minimum of nine (9) credits from a recognized or accredited institution in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or Human Services & three (3) yrs experience in the planning, development or implementation of drug/alcohol awareness/prevention programming; OR a Bachelor’s Degree in the aforementioned topics & one (1) yr experience as in (a) above; OR (c) a Bachelor’s Degree & two (2) yrs experience in (a) above.
