The Sustainability Task Force was formed in 2009 by the Town Board to review opportunities for improved sustainability and energy efficiency throughout the Town of Pound Ridge. The Task Force makes recommendations to the Town Board and residents for actions that advance these goals.
For the purposes of the Task Force, sustainability involves long terms goals and programs that improve energy efficiency, efficient use of materials through conservation and recycling, and facilitating a healthier environment for residents.
Sustainability also considers meeting the needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Examples of the Sustainability Task Force actions include promoting Town of Pound Ridge membership in the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI); the Northern Westchester Energy Action Consortium (NWEAC); and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Climate Smart Program. These affiliations will facilitate greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories; Climate Action Plans (CAP) and other environmental actions for the Town of Pound Ridge. Some support for these programs in Pound Ridge will be provided by US Department of Energy (DOE) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) grants awarded to neighboring towns affiliated with Pound Ridge.
Currently, the Sustainability Task Force is involved in energy improvement programs for municipal buildings and outreach to residents and business for potential energy improvement programs. Additional programs are being discussed for future implementation.
Membership of the Sustainability Task Force is comprised of town residents and representatives from Town commissions and various boards.
