Senator Harckham Secures Funding for Repairs of Pound Ridge Town Park Pools

Peekskill, NY – New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today that $220,000 in state grant funding has been awarded to renovate and repair two of the Pound Ridge Town Park pools, which have been leaking to the extent that their use next summer was in question, according to Town of Pound Ridge Supervisor Kevin C. Hansan.

“Pound Ridge Town Park provides residents with a number of great recreation opportunities while also offering summer jobs for youth,” said Harckham, “so keeping the park’s pools operational is a major priority. Unfortunately, infrastructure projects can be costly and impact budgets enough that programs end up being cut to pay the bills. That’s why I’m pleased to announce funding that will repair the two leaking pools in the park. Residents deserve facilities that are in top shape, and problems that need to be addressed should not wait until it is too late. Supervisor Hansan deserves credit for proactively addressing this project.”

For the past three years, both the Recreation and Competition pools at Pound Ridge Town Park have been leaking. (A third pool for young children remains in good shape.) While there have been several efforts to repair and mitigate the leaks over the years, the problem only became worse this past summer, and it was discovered that the waterproofing behind the existing gutters around the pool needed to be replaced.

The awarded grant funding, which Harckham secured within the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM), will pay for removal of the waterproofing and extant gutters of the two pool at Pound Ridge Town Park, and then installation of new stainless-steel gutters for the pools.

“On behalf of all the residents of Pound Ridge, I am deeply grateful for Senator Harckham’s help getting Pound Ridge the funds we desperately need to repair our leaking pools,” said Hansan. “Despite our best efforts to fix the problem over the years, our competition and recreation pools continued to leak thousands of gallons of water this summer jeopardizing next year’s pool season.  Thanks to Senator Harckham, our Recreation Department will now have the funds to properly stop the leaks by replacing the failing pool infrastructure.”

The awarded grant funding was secured within the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM), which is among the grant programs administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) to support community and economic development.

In the past 10 months, Harckham has secured SAM funding for numerous community projects and municipal initiatives in Westchester County, including ballfield renovations at Millwood Recreation Park in the Town of New Castle, a new police car and stop signs in Somers and trail improvements in Peekskill’s Fort Hill Park—saving county taxpayers more than $2.6 million in spending.

State Senator Harckham represents New York's 40th District, which includes the towns of Beekman, Pawling and the village of Pawling in Dutchess County; the towns of Carmel, Patterson and Southeast, and the village of Brewster in Putnam County; and the city of Peekskill, the towns of Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers and Yorktown, the town/village of Mount Kisco, and the villages of Briarcliff Manor, Buchanan, Croton-on-Hudson, Pleasantville and Sleepy Hollow in Westchester County.
