Water Control Commission

The Water Control Commission regulates local wetlands.  Many of the Town's ponds, lakes, and wetlands provide important beneficial functions including natural flood and storm water control, groundwater recharge, natural pollution treatment, and erosion and sediment control.

The Town's wetland ordinance was created to provide protection, preservation, proper maintenance and use of the ponds, lakes, streams and wetlands, and to protect the potable surface and ground water.

The Water Control Commission reviews any proposed development within the controlled area.  The minimum activity buffer area required by law between the proposed activity and a controlled area is 150 feet.  Any proposed activity within the controlled area requires a permit.  Specific required guidelines must be addressed and indicated on all plans submitted.

The Water Control Commission typically meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7pm.
