Croton Watershed Water Quality Protection Plan (The Croton Plan)

Westchester Watershed Protection

The Comprehensive Croton Watershed Water Quality Protection Plan (the Croton Plan) for the Croton Watershed in Westchester County is a detailed and comprehensive inter-municipal water quality planning effort. Ten local municipalities worked with Westchester County and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection to assess the unique conditions in the Croton Watershed, identify water quality impacts and develop a strategy to reduce those impacts and prevent further water quality degradation while protecting community character.

The Croton Watershed is an important land area and a valuable drinking water resource to both Westchester County and New York City. The complexities involved in protecting it were recognized during the development of the New York City Watershed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and led to a provision in the MOA for development of this Plan.

All parties that participated in the development of the Plan will also be involved in implementing its recommendations to ensure the protection of the watershed and the communities in it.
